Preparing Home for Pets
While bringing a new pet home may never be as exciting and really life changing as bringing in a new born child, you might as well consider doing some preparations to welcome the new member of the family. We do not suggest that you prepare a welcome party, but instead prepare your home for the new pet. This is because without careful preparation, your new friend can turn your peaceful and beloved homestead into a big mess. To help you with this task, here are few simple house preparation tips, which we hope can make a significant difference for you and your pet.
One is eliminate obstacles and possible cause of injuries. To a small dog or cat, an average home is like a world of giants - a place where almost everything is colossal. The staircase will become like an intimidating mountain, while the furniture will appear like a high tower that is inviting to be climbed. The home will be a whole new place for a new pet that needs to be explored and discovered. So remove obstacles and possible areas that will cause them harm. If you can afford it, buy pet ramps for couches and beds, where the new pets are allowed to lounge.
Another home preparation that you must give a thought is to get your pet a place for its own. If you do not want your pet sharing the couch or the bed you, put a cosy bed for it in every room, especially the bedroom and living room. Pets are more likely to keep off themselves from the couch and any other furniture in the house if they have their own place to take refuge.
When preparing for the coming of a new pet, do not also forget to give your home decor a check. This would include ensuring that window blinds or drapes do not have in cords that poses strangulation hazard and keeping area rugs that are easier to clean when soak with pet urine.
