Sports Involving Amazing Dogs
Who says sports are only for human beings? There are sports and activities governed by law that are specially designed for dogs. Although there are arguments about classifying such activities as sports, pet owners consider them as such, nevertheless.
The most popular of these sports is the dog agility. This is where a handler or owner takes his pet into an obstacle course with other dog breeds. In this sport, the dog is made to race with other dogs for time and accuracy without food or toys as incentives. Handlers are also not allowed to touch their dogs nor the obstacles. The only way they can manipulate their dogs’ pace on the game is through voice, movement, and body signal. That is why it requires intensive training of the animal, making him or her accustomed to heeding to the handler’s commands. Obstacle courses are quite complicated that is why dogs need directions from their handlers.
Another popular dog sport is the obedience trial. A dog is made to perfectly execute tasks with the handler giving directions. Although it is a more relaxed sport, it requires immense levels of concentration and motivation from both the dog and the handler. It involves disciplines like “sit”, “down,” or “heel,” and retrieving. It may also include a test of the dog’s character like controlling them at a significant distance.
Then, there is the flying disc, which is also considered a sport. Just like playing Frisbee, dogs are made to catch a flying disc as many times as possible for a given time period. The team that scores more points for longer throw and catch combinations wins the game.
